Aspects of Poker

Deciding when to play a hand and when to fold a hand is a very difficult aspect of poker. It is also one of the most important aspects of poker. It is the most fundamental aspect of playing poker because when it is your turn to act you can do one of two things; play or fold. While you may be able to check, call, or raise, these are all acts of playing or you can fold and get out of the hand. There are a number of things that you can do to help you make the right decision of whether you should fold your hand or not.

The one thing that I do that helps more than any other is to ask myself what I would do if I had just won a large pot. After winning a large pot, I usually am happy to let bad hands go because I just got a great hand and am feeling good about the win and so I will usually make the right decision. When I have not seen a good hand in a while, though, I am more likely to call with a poor hand that I would be if I were getting a good string of cards. As such, asking myself what I would do if I had just had won a big pot leads me to making the right decision of whether to fold the hand.

Using this strategy, you will notice that you will be able to navigate through your hands with logic instead of emotion.
